In addition to our incredible full-time preschool and kindergarten programming, TIK offers high-quality and affordable extended care and enrichment programs to meet the diverse needs of children and their families. At TIK we realize that not only do children have unique learning needs, but their busy families also have unique scheduling needs. We aim to meet all of those needs with our carefully planned programming that runs until 8pm Monday through Friday! These programs serve children ages 18 moths-12 years old.
What separates our afterschool programming from other schools is specificity and accountability. Students entering our enrichment programs are professionally assessed and have programs designed to meet their specific needs. Parents are made aware of where their child is at, where they need to go, and how we intend to take them there. This is done while maintaining open communication with parents about their child’s progress.
Our Extended Care program is an open daycare and evening care service provided for busy families who need afterhours care services for their children. This program adopts a “whole child” developmental approach and engages children in purposeful play. Parents are able to enroll their child for as little as one hour on an as needed basis. Whether you need extra care for your child until you finish working, or just need some time to yourself on the weekends, we are here to meet your childcare needs.

Capoeira is a Brazilian art which combines fighting, music and dance. Capoeira is a conversation between two players in the Roda (circle in which the fight takes place) that can take on many forms be it fast and acrobatic or slow and controlled each game is different and personal to the two playing at the time.
The exact dates of the origin of capoeira are uncertain but what is known is that it was invented by African slaves in Brazil. At the time slave masters forbade the slaves from learning to fight in fear that they would use the skills to escape, so the slaves came up with a way to make their training look like a dance combining samba dancing with sudden kicks and impressive movement.
They used these skills to do exactly what the masters feared and escape, many of them created communities called quilombo, they protected their communities using capoeira to fight off any master brave enough to come try and retrieve the escaped slaves. The game of capoeira requires foresight and an understanding of one’s own body. Physical strength is not something that can be solely relied on in a game of capoeira you have to be able to read your opponents movements and reply accordingly.
Another important aspect of capoeira is the music which sets the rhythm and speed of a game. All the songs and movements in capoeira are in Portuguese so not only will you learn new physical and musical techniques but a new language as well.
